We have all heard, and possibly used, the phrase "inalienable rights", but what does the phrase actually mean?  An "inalienable right" is a right that cannot be taken away from an individual.  It is a right that has been granted by God Himself, and from God alone.  The government has no ultimate authority to bestow rights upon any individual or withdraw them.  As a matter of fact, the government governs at the discretion of those individuals being governed.

Thomas Jefferson understood this concept; and the importance of it, which is the reason he included it during the drafting of the Declaration of Independence.  "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.  That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, ..." (Declaration of Independence).

Today, as government and secular forces work to chip away at our nation's Christian heritage and our inalienable rights; such as religious freedom, our right of conscience and the sanctity of human life, along with our time-honored moral and family values have become increasingly threatened.
